But there’s another key reason behind our success that truly sets us apart: 100% of your donations go directly to the charity or charities you choose. This commitment to transparency and efficiency is a point of pride for us, and it’s what makes Federated Health Charities unique.
Federated Health Charities was founded in 1983, when OPS members created a campaign to support health charities via payroll deduction, cash, cheque, credit card, and special events. Since then, our spring campaign—running annually from April through June—has grown into a critical funding source for vital health initiatives.
In 1996, Federated Health Charities incorporated as a charitable organization supported by the charities it serves, and it continues to operate under this model today. We officially operate as Federated Health Charities Corporation and are registered under Charitable #854135480RR0001.
Our operational model is unique. All member charities pay annual membership fees to Federated Health Charities Corporation to cover the campaign’s administrative expenses. Due to generous support from the Ontario Public Service, as well as our lean and efficient operational style, Federated Health can fundraise at a lower cost than our charities, meaning we can get them a greater bang for their fundraising buck. These fees & revenue split are determined by a revenue-sharing formula based on the percentage of donations designated to each charity in the previous year’s campaign. This ensures that each participating charity receives a fair and consistent return on investment. This also ensures that donations are distributed in accordance with donor demand. This is all part of our efforts to be donor led.
This transparent approach is how we ensure that 100% of the funds raised—whether through payroll deductions, lottery ticket purchases, or the countless fundraising events held each April—go directly to the causes you support.
