Bake Sale

Host a bake sale with the proceeds going towards your Federated Health campaign. You could even follow these same steps for a book sale, samosa sale, ice cream sale, craft or knitting sale, smoothie sale – the possibilities are endless!

Step One – Location and Date

Determine where you are going to hold your bake sale, your office lunchroom or your office building’s main lobby area are both great choices depending on where you are located.

Once you have decided on a location you need to pick a date. Make sure to give yourself enough time to plan. Also, be sure your date does not coincide with a holiday weekend to maximize traffic.

Step Two – Recruit your Bakers

You will want to make sure you have a variety of sweet treats for your bake sale.

Keep a list of what your colleagues decide to contribute so you have an idea of what you will have. Be sure to ask your friends and family if they would bake a couple dozen cookies or squares as well. Please include a list of ingredients for those who have gluten or nut problems.

Step Three – Up the Ante

Come up with other activities to make your sale more appealing. Sell coffee or tea for additional revenue, who wouldn’t love a coffee to go with the delicious bake good they just purchased. Often your local coffee shop is happy to donate some coffee or tea. If you don’t inquire, you don’t get!

Step Four – Create a Buzz

You can advertise by putting up posters in common areas as well as sending out an email to everyone in your office.

Be sure to include all the need-to-know details, such as date, time, and location. Highlight specific items you have for sale to draw people in. If you have treats baked by your leadership team, make sure you advertise that. It can even be fun to make it a competition between your leadership team’s baked goods (like a cake-off, or which ADM/CEO/Commissioner bakes the best cookies!), give it a try!

If you are in a building exclusive to your Ministry or agency, send an email to all staff advertising the event and put-up flyers on each floor. If you are in a shared building with other Ministry’s/Agencies or outside businesses, ask the building manager if he/she will allow you to advertise in the building, and maybe they will even email the tenants if they are outside businesses. Ask other offices in the building to put up a poster in their lunchroom and maybe they will even send out an email on your behalf.

Take some pictures with you and colleagues having some fun at your event and send them to Federated Health Charities to share your successful event with others.

Step Five – Make Sure the Price is Right

All bake sale items should have a clearly marked price or set up tables by price point.

Step Six – It’s all in the Details

Here’s a list of things you will need to make your day that much easier:

    • Enough tables with table cloths to display your bake goods, don’t cram everything together as it will make your items harder to see.
    • Lots of change and small bills.
    • Price tags, markers and colourful bristle board.
    • A calculator to add up big purchases.
    • A cash box.
    • Plates and napkins, plastic gloves for the sales folks.
    • A donation jar.
    • Be sure to know if any baked goods have any common allergy ingredients (like nuts or eggs).
    • Have a Federated Health Charities QR code handy so that employees can also scan to buy a lottery ticket (Eat, Drink and Be Wealthy!).

Step Seven – Setting Up

Set up your tables with table cloths on them so you can put all your delicious bake goods out.

Be clear on the purpose of your sale. Make signs to indicate your sale benefits Federated Health Charities. (21 health related charities).

Background music can enhance the vibe of your sale and make the experience more enjoyable for your customers.

Take some pictures with you and colleagues having some fun at your event and send them to Federated Health Charities to share your successful event with others.

Step Eight – Be the Host with the Most

Have fun with it!

Step Nine – Keep it Clean

Once your sale is over, remove your signs from the building. If you have items left-over you can share them with your colleagues that helped you plan the bake sale or send them home to their families. You could also have someone drop off all left-over baking to a local shelter.

Step Ten – Add it Up!

Take out the float you started with and then add it all up and see how you did. There is a budget template included.

Bring your money into work and hand it in to your Treasurer to be recorded and deposited.
