Ministry of Finance Kicks Off Federated Health Charities Fundraising Campaign

Feb 21, 2025

Pauline Padmore and Charlotte Graham with the Ministry of Finance (MOF) Communications Services Branch are setting a remarkable example with the launch of its annual Federated Health Charities (FHC) fundraising campaign.

MOF’s Tradition of Giving

The MOF’s early engagement in this year’s campaign underscores its commitment to fostering a culture of philanthropy and tradition of giving. By participating in annual fundraising events such as Candygram, Samosa, Bake and Orchid sales and more, the ministry not only contributes to fundraising efforts but also encourages others to participate, amplifying the impact of the campaign.

Government Employees Organizing Fundraising Events for Health Charities in Ontario

Pauline reflects on the origins of FHC…”I like to imagine that the FHC story, which began in 1983, originated with coworkers gathered around the water cooler, sharing personal struggles and the challenges their loved ones face with health conditions. It was then that someone likely asked, ‘What can we do to help?’ That spark of compassion led to the creation of the FHC, an organization born from the OPS, by the OPS, and for individuals, families and communities across Ontario.”

Charlotte shared, “As someone who is still quite new to OPS, it’s been incredibly inspiring to see the commitment and passion from so many individuals across the ministry. Whether it’s volunteering time, organizing an event, making a donation or spreading awareness – everyone is eager to be involved.”

This grassroots, employee-driven approach continues to inspire and guide the Ministry’s involvement in the campaign.

A Personal Connection

Pauline further emphasizes the personal significance of FHC’s initiatives:

“Federated Health is a language and communication that we’ve come to understand and that we feel really close to. Health is personal. Every single Ambassador that comes on board volunteers to raise money for the health charities, and ultimately, themselves, their families, coworkers and communities who have been affected by compromised health.”

Looking Ahead

The MOF’s proactive approach sets a positive example for other ministries and provincial organizations, demonstrating the power of collective action in supporting health initiatives. As the campaign progresses, continued engagement will be crucial in reaching fundraising goals and furthering the mission of Federated Health Charities.
