FHC Blog – Your donation makes a difference

Jun 28, 2023

Over our 2023 campaign, Federated Health Charities has profiled each of our 21 member charities, from the first charity we supported, the Canadian Cancer Society, to the latest organization to join Federated Health Charities, the Sickle Cell Awareness Group of Ontario.

What each of these 21 organizations share is a commitment to improving the lives of people and families across our province who are affected by serious illness, like heart disease and stroke, or life-changing health conditions, like diabetes or Parkinson’s disease. From supporting people who have just received a life-changing diagnosis, to providing funding and equipment for people and families who otherwise couldn’t afford the cost of care, our charities provide essential services in our communities and help fill critical gaps in our healthcare system.

As a fundraiser, you get used to being asked “Why should I donate to your organization?”

The answer is simple – your donations make a difference.

Your donation to Federated Health Charities helps make it possible for our charities to invest in ground-breaking research that is saving lives all across our province today. That makes a difference for people and families affected by cancer, who have seen the survival rate for all cancers rise from 55% in the 1990s to 64% today, and kids with cystic fibrosis, who are living longer and healthier lives thanks to research supported by Cystic Fibrosis Canada.

Your donations help fund programs that make a difference to people like Shelby, who turned to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s peer support program to help her understand her condition. The support that Federated Health Charities receives from provincial employees helps keep MS Canada’s MS Knowledge Network running to provide information to people with MS, their caregivers and healthcare providers. And your donations help ensure there’s someone there to answer the phone after someone receives a cancer diagnosis.

By supporting Federated Health Charities and our 21 members, you’re helping raise awareness about osteoporosis, so we can stay strong and continue to enjoy our daily lives as we age; you’re helping Heart & Stroke provide more CPR and AED training and raising awareness of the signs of stroke; and you’re helping improve the support and care available for families affected by sickle cell disease.

One in five of us in Ontario has arthritis, one in three has diabetes or prediabetes, and nearly half of us are expected to be diagnosed with some form of cancer in our lifetimes. When you donate to Federated Health Charities, you’re making a difference in the lives of everyone around you by supporting healthier communities for people across Ontario.
